One of the things I love about our relationship is that we are embracing each other’s culture and we are exposed to more culture, traditions and customs. Malay customs, whenever a couple gets engaged, the girl will get the band first and on the wedding day she will get the bigger ring. While western customs, the guy would propose with the big ring first and get the wedding band on the wedding day.
Don proposed to me with a gorgeous, vintage ring. It was his great grandmother’s engagement ring. It was then passed down to his mother as an inheritance from her grandfather. Don’s mother (LF) LF wore it and kept it close to her until now. Before Don came to see me in KL, he told his mother that he wanted to talk to my parents and propose. She was so kind to offer this dear ring to him. The ring meant a lot to her, so for her to offer it to me was a big gesture. Now that it’s passed down to me, I am the 4th generation to wear the ring. Don estimates that the ring is almost 100 years old. It’s legit vintage!
With the ring being almost a decade old, it needed a new life. LF wore the ring all her life. It was her size, the ring had her personality on it. Now that it’s passed down to me. I wanted to make the ring “Khaira’s engagement ring”. I love white gold and silver jewelry. It goes well with my skin tone and suits my personality more. It’s also modern and stylish. After asking my Don and LF’s consent, I had the ring chromed to white gold. I admit that it lost it’s “vintage” look to it, but it’s still looks vintage for it’s design and the pearl. I am so happy to have it back after 2.5 weeks of getting it resized and chromed. I can’t stop looking at my left hand! I love the ring!
